Pickup and open play soccer in Vancouver, WA

New in town, back from a long break, or just want a game this week? You do not need a team and you do not need to sign up for a season. Here is where people actually play around Vancouver, Camas and Clark County — outdoors for free, and indoors for a few dollars.

Outdoor pickup

Free, casual, adult pickup. No fee, no roster, no commitment. Turn up, split sides and play. Which of the two fields is used can change week to week, so it is worth arriving a few minutes early and looking for the group.

Nautilus sports fields

East Vancouver, WA

Open grass fields on the Nautilus campus. Free to use and the usual home of the Monday, Friday and Saturday games.

Harmony Sports Complex

1500 NE 192nd Ave, Vancouver, WA

Clark County's big complex: lighted turf plus grass fields. Plenty of parking, easy to find the group once you are on site.

Union High School

Vancouver, WA

Lit turf, used for the midday Tuesday and Thursday games when Harmony is booked. Park in the main lot and walk round to the fields.

These games are not run by Coach Arnold Academy.

They are community pickup, organised by the players themselves. We list them because people ask us every week where to play. Times drift, fields get booked and winter weather cancels things — treat this as a starting point rather than a guarantee, and if you show up to an empty field, try the other venue listed for that day.

Indoor open play

Two arenas in Vancouver run drop-in open play year round. Both cost a few dollars, both need you to register in person the first time, and both are the fastest way to get regular games through the wet months.

Clark County Indoor Sports Center

16311 NE 15th St, Vancouver, WA 98684

One of the venues for our own Obsidian AC Sunday games. Open play sessions run afternoons and late evenings.

SessionDayTime
AfternoonTuesday3:00 – 5:00 pm
AfternoonFriday3:00 – 5:00 pm
EveningTuesday9:00 – 11:00 pm
EveningFriday11:00 pm – 1:00 am

$12 per session. An ID card or a one day pass is required, and registration has to be done in person the first time. Evening open play is open to all ages.

Salmon Creek Indoor Sports Arena

110 NW 139th St, Vancouver, WA 98685

North Vancouver, two indoor fields, with a women's session as well as coed. Daytime sessions, so good if your evenings are spoken for.

SessionDayTime
Women's open play (16+)Friday10:00 – 11:30 am
Coed open play (16+)Friday12:00 – 1:30 pm
Coed open play (16+)Saturday12:00 – 1:30 pm

Drop-in is $10 with a membership or $12 without. Membership is $30 a year for an individual, $60 for a family. You need an arena account with a signed waiver on file, and sessions cap at 28 players, so arrive early on a busy Friday.

Times and prices above were taken from each arena's own website in September 2026. Both change their schedules between seasons, so check the venue's page before you drive over.

If it is your first time

Bring two shirts

One dark, one light. Sides get split on the spot and nobody wants to play shirts-and-skins in February.

Check your footwear

Firm-ground boots or turf shoes outdoors. Indoors, flats or turf shoes only — most arenas will not let you on in metal studs.

Turn up ten minutes early

That is when teams get sorted. Say hello, say it is your first time, and someone will put you on a side.

Any level is fine

Midday pickup is genuinely mixed: ex-college players next to people who have not played since school. Play at the level you have got.

Bring water and shin pads

Pickup is friendly but it is still football. Shin pads are cheap and your shins are not.

Cash or card for indoor

Outdoor pickup is free. Indoor sessions charge at the door and want you registered in person the first visit, so allow a few extra minutes.

Want more than a kickabout?

Pickup keeps you sharp, but it will not fix a first touch or a weak left foot on its own. If you want structure alongside the casual games, there are three ways in.

Adult training

Coached adult sessions in Camas and Vancouver — technical work first, small-sided games after.

Obsidian AC

Our adult co-ed team, playing competitive games on Sundays. Trials are open and there is no fee to trial.

Know a game we have missed?

If you run a pickup game or an open play session around Vancouver, Camas, Washougal or east Portland and you want it listed here, send the day, time and field and it will go on the page.

New to the area?

Say hello and mention where you have moved from and what level you played at. Coach Arnold will point you at the game that fits rather than making you work through the whole list.
